Crappie
Panfishing on the Chippewa Flowage in April can be hit and miss. There will be periods of great fishing if several days of warmth and sun can stabalize the fish in a prespawn mode. Most of the fish will be in a transition stage from winter holding waters to shallow weed growth spawning areas. On most cloudy days panfish will be in deeper water from 12 to 25 feet of water or deeper. On sunny warm days you will find the crappie and bluegill cruising large weedy areas in search of good habitat to spawn. Look to use a variety of different baits at this time of year. Some panfish will be fairly light biters requiring a smaller almost winterlike approach while other panfish will be very aggressive taking larger three inch plastics or minnows. White is usually a standard lure color for spring crappie but don't be affraid to mix it up to find the hot color for the day.
